Quick and Simple Tips for a Contemporary Bedroom Interior – Part 2

By Lester Fong

Here’s the 2nd part of my quick and simple tips for a contemporary bedroom interior, focusing on choosing a mattress and bed sheets.

Choosing a Mattress

Firmness: A soft mattress may feel perfect when you first lie down but by morning you may find your body plagued by aches and pain. A good mattress should cradle your body with enough support so your body does not sag into the mattress.

Comfort: The mattress you choose will affect your health and overall well-being since it influences your rest. So lie down for at least 15 minutes on the mattress of choice in the store to be sure.

Support: Keep in mind your needs best so ensure that the mattress offers support where you need it most. Don’t allow the salesperson sell you something else.

Price: Going for the cheapest model may not be the best decision since the mattress is expected to last you for the next 10 years. Lower priced mattress tend to be thinner than better made ones and lack the firmness to provide support. Shop for quality and value.

Selecting Bed Sheets

Holy sheet – Given the wide selection available, it’s a good idea to invest in more than one set of sheets. As a general rule, purchase two to three sets for each bed so come laundry day, the bed won’t be left naked.

Thread count – This is the number of threads per square inch of fabric, so the higher thread count will always be softer and more comfortable than the lower thread count. As a general rule, opt for at least 200 thread count.

Fabric content – 100% cotton sheets will be the softest and most breathable. Cotton comes in different grades which are determined by the length of its staple or fibre. The longer the staple, the more luxurious and durable the grade. Beyond regular pure cotton sheets, there are two high grade cotton bed sheets to consider; Egyptian Cotton and Supima.

Cotton poly is another commonly seen bed sheet fabric. It’s a mix of cotton and polyester which does not allow it to wrinkle easily. Price-wise is also fairly moderate.

I hope this article on quick and simple tips for a contemporary bedroom interior has helped you pick out the essentials for a modern and practical bedroom.

Bedding Ideas for Better Bedrooms

By Andy Maingam

So many folks settle for the bog-standard bedroom layout, but there really is so much more that can be done to improve the room we spend a third of our lives in. When it comes to bedding ideas, most of us know that bedding and accents are important, but there is one key area of bedroom design that is so often overlooked. What am I talking about? The flooring!

The floor space on so many bedrooms gets neglected all too often, and it's a shame because with some carefully chosen bedroom ideas for the floor, you really can transform your bedrooms. For example, floor pillows are a great choice for the bedroom since they are soft and fluffy, like your bedding and bed pillows. Why not try and do something a little different with your bedroom layout this time.

You don't need a degree in interior design in order to make some great changes to both the look and feel of your sleeping zone. You can embellish your bedroom with a contemporary flair by making a few simple alterations such as a couple of paintings, or other wall decorations, and coordinating your bedding and pillows to enhance your room with a modern design.

If you use neutral colors on the walls, it's easier to alter the bedding and bedroom furniture without the need to redecorate. Try to use colors for your bedding that complement the seasons. That way, you'll get to have at least 2 looks a year depending where you live in the world.

Another suggestion is to come up with a bedroom design that's planned around coordinated bedding set. These days folks are constantly in search of things that will somehow simplify and beautify our cluttered lives, and the bedding ensemble can do just that if chosen with care.

When you think about it, so much has changed in the world of bedding over the past couple of decades that many people find it hard to keep up with all the changes, but one thing that seems to be on the increase in simplistic designs, and in particular, Feng Shui. Put simply, Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of positioning objects in rooms so that they will achieve harmony, comfort, and balance into your life.

Bedding and bedroom ideas practiced around Feng Shui say that the bed should not be placed so that your feet face a doorway, as this is apparently the way the deceased are carried from a room. Neither should your bed directly face a window as the glare attracts Sha energy. Also, there should be no more than two mirrors placed in a bedroom as this will excite Chi. Also, avoid placing a mirror at the foot of the bed or opposite a window.

There are many rules and suggestions on the simplicity and art of Feng Shui for bedrooms and you will find an abundance of material on the subject should you wish to look into it further.

So there we have it. Bedding ideas are not just about sheets and pillows but about cushions, soft furnishings and fabrics around or over furniture. With a little imagination and a couple of hours to spare, you could transform both the look and feel of you bedroom without even looking at a tin of paint.

Child Bedroom Furniture

By Peter Emerson

Children’s Bedroom Furniture should be bought while keeping in mind the needs of the children. The furniture should be done in sprightly colors to keep the spirits of the children bright. The Bedroom Furniture should have storage space to hold the toys and belongings of the kids. The ideal furniture for children should be such that it’s fun to have around and designed to be sturdy enough to last.

You can get an entire bedroom set that is replete with beds, drawers and a mirror, all done in hues to enliven and energize the child each time he or she enters the room. There are some highly creative designs available for these young ones, such as drawers designed in the form of castles. Get bunk beds for the two of your little ones, done in the style of castles or a space shuttle or a tractor. Add another layer of creativity to the room by sprucing up the room with bedcovers, curtains and posters done in vibrant hues. You can also think of buying thematic furniture that certain companies offer. There could be themes such as sports, butterflies, sea kingdom, stars and skies, with this motif running through all the furniture. You can also consider a bed with trundles for the kids, as they lend that playroom feel to the room.

Since the child studies in the room, having a study table is a must. Do your daughter’s room in the characteristic tradition of a dollhouse in shades of pink or yellow, with a 5- or 7-piece furniture set. This would usually include a single bed, set of drawers, headboard that could also be used as a bookcase, mirror and a side table. You can also get furniture that helps give your child a creative outlet. Get a chalkboard table where your child can write what he or she wants to. Get a bench for the room, where your child could have a good time with his or her friends. Having furniture of this sort ensures that the bedroom is the favorite haunt of your child and his friends.
