Quick and Simple Tips for a Contemporary Bedroom Interior – Part 2

By Lester Fong

Here’s the 2nd part of my quick and simple tips for a contemporary bedroom interior, focusing on choosing a mattress and bed sheets.

Choosing a Mattress

Firmness: A soft mattress may feel perfect when you first lie down but by morning you may find your body plagued by aches and pain. A good mattress should cradle your body with enough support so your body does not sag into the mattress.

Comfort: The mattress you choose will affect your health and overall well-being since it influences your rest. So lie down for at least 15 minutes on the mattress of choice in the store to be sure.

Support: Keep in mind your needs best so ensure that the mattress offers support where you need it most. Don’t allow the salesperson sell you something else.

Price: Going for the cheapest model may not be the best decision since the mattress is expected to last you for the next 10 years. Lower priced mattress tend to be thinner than better made ones and lack the firmness to provide support. Shop for quality and value.

Selecting Bed Sheets

Holy sheet – Given the wide selection available, it’s a good idea to invest in more than one set of sheets. As a general rule, purchase two to three sets for each bed so come laundry day, the bed won’t be left naked.

Thread count – This is the number of threads per square inch of fabric, so the higher thread count will always be softer and more comfortable than the lower thread count. As a general rule, opt for at least 200 thread count.

Fabric content – 100% cotton sheets will be the softest and most breathable. Cotton comes in different grades which are determined by the length of its staple or fibre. The longer the staple, the more luxurious and durable the grade. Beyond regular pure cotton sheets, there are two high grade cotton bed sheets to consider; Egyptian Cotton and Supima.

Cotton poly is another commonly seen bed sheet fabric. It’s a mix of cotton and polyester which does not allow it to wrinkle easily. Price-wise is also fairly moderate.

I hope this article on quick and simple tips for a contemporary bedroom interior has helped you pick out the essentials for a modern and practical bedroom.

Bedding Ideas for Better Bedrooms

By Andy Maingam

So many folks settle for the bog-standard bedroom layout, but there really is so much more that can be done to improve the room we spend a third of our lives in. When it comes to bedding ideas, most of us know that bedding and accents are important, but there is one key area of bedroom design that is so often overlooked. What am I talking about? The flooring!

The floor space on so many bedrooms gets neglected all too often, and it's a shame because with some carefully chosen bedroom ideas for the floor, you really can transform your bedrooms. For example, floor pillows are a great choice for the bedroom since they are soft and fluffy, like your bedding and bed pillows. Why not try and do something a little different with your bedroom layout this time.

You don't need a degree in interior design in order to make some great changes to both the look and feel of your sleeping zone. You can embellish your bedroom with a contemporary flair by making a few simple alterations such as a couple of paintings, or other wall decorations, and coordinating your bedding and pillows to enhance your room with a modern design.

If you use neutral colors on the walls, it's easier to alter the bedding and bedroom furniture without the need to redecorate. Try to use colors for your bedding that complement the seasons. That way, you'll get to have at least 2 looks a year depending where you live in the world.

Another suggestion is to come up with a bedroom design that's planned around coordinated bedding set. These days folks are constantly in search of things that will somehow simplify and beautify our cluttered lives, and the bedding ensemble can do just that if chosen with care.

When you think about it, so much has changed in the world of bedding over the past couple of decades that many people find it hard to keep up with all the changes, but one thing that seems to be on the increase in simplistic designs, and in particular, Feng Shui. Put simply, Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of positioning objects in rooms so that they will achieve harmony, comfort, and balance into your life.

Bedding and bedroom ideas practiced around Feng Shui say that the bed should not be placed so that your feet face a doorway, as this is apparently the way the deceased are carried from a room. Neither should your bed directly face a window as the glare attracts Sha energy. Also, there should be no more than two mirrors placed in a bedroom as this will excite Chi. Also, avoid placing a mirror at the foot of the bed or opposite a window.

There are many rules and suggestions on the simplicity and art of Feng Shui for bedrooms and you will find an abundance of material on the subject should you wish to look into it further.

So there we have it. Bedding ideas are not just about sheets and pillows but about cushions, soft furnishings and fabrics around or over furniture. With a little imagination and a couple of hours to spare, you could transform both the look and feel of you bedroom without even looking at a tin of paint.

Child Bedroom Furniture

By Peter Emerson

Children’s Bedroom Furniture should be bought while keeping in mind the needs of the children. The furniture should be done in sprightly colors to keep the spirits of the children bright. The Bedroom Furniture should have storage space to hold the toys and belongings of the kids. The ideal furniture for children should be such that it’s fun to have around and designed to be sturdy enough to last.

You can get an entire bedroom set that is replete with beds, drawers and a mirror, all done in hues to enliven and energize the child each time he or she enters the room. There are some highly creative designs available for these young ones, such as drawers designed in the form of castles. Get bunk beds for the two of your little ones, done in the style of castles or a space shuttle or a tractor. Add another layer of creativity to the room by sprucing up the room with bedcovers, curtains and posters done in vibrant hues. You can also think of buying thematic furniture that certain companies offer. There could be themes such as sports, butterflies, sea kingdom, stars and skies, with this motif running through all the furniture. You can also consider a bed with trundles for the kids, as they lend that playroom feel to the room.

Since the child studies in the room, having a study table is a must. Do your daughter’s room in the characteristic tradition of a dollhouse in shades of pink or yellow, with a 5- or 7-piece furniture set. This would usually include a single bed, set of drawers, headboard that could also be used as a bookcase, mirror and a side table. You can also get furniture that helps give your child a creative outlet. Get a chalkboard table where your child can write what he or she wants to. Get a bench for the room, where your child could have a good time with his or her friends. Having furniture of this sort ensures that the bedroom is the favorite haunt of your child and his friends.

Interior Bedroom Design

By Tom Houser

Besides the kitchen, interior bedroom design is the most popular room to design in the family home. The bedroom should be cozy and restful in its appearance. Bright colors are not recommended because they are not calming. Colors best suited for bedrooms are warm and neutral colors.

To start your interior bedroom design plan you should choose the fabrics first along with the base wall color. One the fabric and color is selected then you can select the furniture that matches. For wall coverings, you do not need to purchase expensive artwork. If you or someone you know is a photographer then choose some unique photos to cover the walls. If you or someone you know is an artist then maybe you can hang some of their artwork in a nice frame. Now you will have wall hangings that no one else will have.

When doing your interior bedroom design the flooring in bedrooms should never be tile, marble or granite. Use wood or carpet for bedrooms, you do not want an ice-cold floor in the morning. Carpet would be the warmest but wood is also a popular choice for bedroom flooring. To avoid clutter in the bedroom try extra cabinets or storage spaces in the bedroom. If the closet is big enough, put some extra storage or shelving in the closet.

Another tip for interior bedroom design is to choose the same color and fabric for the bedcovers and curtains. Many people like to have very dark curtains to keep out the morning sunlight. An alternative to dark curtains against light colored walls would be to have two layers of lighter colored curtains instead of one dark colored curtain. If the bedroom is a small room, consider using mirrors on the walls to give the appearance of a larger room.

Lighting options for interior bedroom design include the usual light in the center of the ceiling. Additional lighting includes lampshades and even pin lights to create different patterns of light. Remember that you spend about a third of your life in the bedroom, therefore it is your private personal space so the room should be the most relaxing room in your home. You also must have a good mattress and pillows to go along with the relaxing atmosphere of the room.

I hope that you will have created a room plan and followed it. Placement of the bedroom furniture is the main reason for creating a plan. If more than one person uses the room, then access to the double bed is required for both people. Thus, it should not be placed in a corner of the room.

If the interior bedroom design requires that electronic devices such as a television need a stand and access to wall sockets then your plan must consider this. I hope that this will put you on the path to a successful bedroom interior design.

Designing the Perfect Bedroom

By Jordi Shoman

Being a quite place where one goes to relax and forget about the laborious day they had, the bedroom should be a comfortable retreat. It is likely that one spends perhaps the most time in their bedroom in comparison to any other room and most of this time is spent resting. As such the bedroom should be the quietest and coziest place in your home. Not only should your bedroom be a calm sanctuary it should also reflect who you are and, in essence, bring to mind warm, soothing thoughts.

Obviously there are a multitude of bedroom sets and furnishings one can choose from to put into their bedroom. Thus finding one that suits you can be a rather easy. It may take some deliberation but eventually you will discover a bedroom suite ideal for your personality. Along with uncovering the perfect bedroom set deciding on a color is another decision that you must contemplate. Not only must you find the color aesthetically pleasing, you should also consider how the color makes you feel. Inviting colors that create a relaxing atmosphere of serenity are best suited for your bedroom space.

If at all possible, having just the bare bedroom essentials in your room, that is, simply a bed and bedroom furnishings, is best for aiding the creation of a tranquil retreat. Sometimes, however, space within the remainder of the house is limited and one must include office space of recreational space within their bedroom. To minimize the rousing effect these things have, it is wise to isolate them from the bed. Have your bed and your office space on opposite ends of the room.

Ensuring that your bedroom is lit well is a must as well. Lighting can mean everything in a bedroom as it can essentially create an intimate atmosphere if necessary or it can generate a peaceful aura ideal for sleeping.

Bedroom Design - Design Your Dream Bedroom

By Penny Day

The ideal room
Make a list of what you want from a bedroom. Do you need a room you can escape to, watch TV, work or just sleep in? Do you want a really big bed or lots of storage? Do you like a particular look? Be realistic about what you can achieve in the space you have.

The plan
Start by sketching a plan of the structural elements, like the chimney breast, windows and doors – basically the things that can't be moved. Then experiment with the position of the key pieces – the bed, wardrobes, chests, remembering that you need space for drawers to open and to walk around the bed.

The bed
Go for the biggest bed you can. Disturbance from a partner is one of the commonest cause of sleep complaints. As to where to position it, most choose the obvious and put the headboard up against a wall, but a little lateral thinking might free up valuable wall space. Try moving your bed into the centre of the room and using the wall behind for a wardrobe with sliding doors. Even if you don't believe in feng shui, it's better to plan your room so your bed isn't right behind the door as it can make the room feel quite closed in.

The built-in option
As fitted bedroom furniture goes from the floor to the ceiling, there are no gaps. This means less dusting and makes the most of awkward areas like sloping ceilings. Also when you use the full height of a wall you can create useful high cupboards for storing little used items like hats and extra bedding. What many people like about fitted bedrooms is the opportunity to choose their own co-ordinated scheme.

The freestanding option
If you like the look(and portability) of freestanding wardobes and chests, check they have the internal fittings you'll need. Look at your clothes and decide what will be useful – drawers for folding jumpers, shelves for shoes and full-length hanging space for party dresses and winter coats. Take advantage of the trend for customising pieces to get the exact combination and look you want. For instance, BoConcept not only sells different-sized chests and wardrobes, you can also choose handles, legs and wood finish.

The inside of your wardrobe
Whether you go for a fitted or freestanding option, the secret to a relaxing bedroom can lie behind the cupboard doors. So devote as much time to planning the inside as you do to choosing the wardrobe itself. You'll be amazed how many more closes you can fit in with double-height hanging rails, drawers with dividers and fully extendable drawers that mean you can get to things right at the back. Ikea and The Holding Company sell great space-saving accessories.

The flooring
As your bedroom gets much less traffic than other rooms, you can have more textured carpets – like a loop-pile – and choose paler shades than you might use downstairs. Wood floors – either solid or engineered – and laminates are becoming more popular in the bedroom and can be combined with underfloor heating. If you're unsure about the minimalist look, add comfort by having a deep-pile rug next to the bed.

The lighting
Don't leave the lighting to the end – particularly if you are going to need extra sockets or want to fit wall lights. The basic rule is that bedrooms need to be bright in the morning and atmospheric at night. Fitting a dimmer switch and having bedside lamps helps achieve this balance. You can also use lighting to highlight features, for instance, line the front of your wardrobes with discreet low-voltage downlighters.

The look
Your bedroom is one room in which you can give your personality full rein, so don't be afraid to try out a scheme that might be a bit much in the living room. Glamour looks work well, with daring colour schemes and glam elements, like mirrored furniture, metallics and white leather. Or opt for dark woods for smart, grown-up luxury.

The atmosphere
Don't forget that your bedroom should be a room in which you feel truly relaxed. That way you have much more chance of getting a good night's sleep. If you must have a television or computer in your bedroom, create as much separation space between them and your sleeping area as you can. Ideally, it's best to have them built in, so that they can be hidden away when not in use.

Bedroom Furniture Design - How To Find One That Suits You

By Albert Lee

Bedroom is the part of the house where you stay most. Furniture utilized in the room will define your personality. Choose pieces which will last longer. Choose designs that will never go out of style. You also select furniture pieces which are sturdy and will maximize the money that you use in buying it.

Look for pieces which are unique. It adds to the bedroom's ambiance if you find something that is worth keeping. Though it might look different from others, this will bring identity to your bedroom.

The bedroom furniture that you need to consider is the basic ones like the bed, mattress, blankets and pillows. Closet is also additional furniture for the bedroom.

The most important part of the bedroom is the bed. The size of the bed should be appropriate to the size of the room. You should leave enough space for movement and action especially for cleaning under the bed. If you have a small room, you can look for beds with wheels for easier movement and transport.

Next is the bed mattress. This should match the bed size. Choose the kind of mattress which is comfortable for you. Choose the types which are not too hard or too soft where you will experience discomfort like muscle pains when you wake up. The type of mattress to be utilized depends on the age of the user.

The height of the bed also matters. It should not be too high and it should not have any pointed edge that might cause accident. Linens such as blankets should serve its purpose. It should give warmth and protection during sleep. It should weigh right and not too heavy. Pillows should also have the right softness or harness. The number of pillows depends on how many you would it to be.

Closets should not be taken for granted. It should fit inside the room and it should contain all your clothes. For smaller rooms, you can choose closets which are movable or those with multi-function. You can also add smaller closet organizers like shoe cubes and hamper bins which can be removed when not in use.

Lastly, add a feature to your room. Add something that can turn out to be special. It is like adding a black item in an all white room or using a blanket with cartoon characters when the theme of your room is contemporary design.

Bedroom Furniture Decorating Tips-Unify Your Look

Does your bedroom furniture invoke the feeling of a yard sale of flea market? Do you have mismatched pieces like a pale birch nightstand and a dark mahogany dresser? If so, it may be time to unify the look in your bedroom by investing in a new bedroom set. Imagine your bed matching the nightstand, which matches the dresser, which in turn matches the chest and armoire. This complete, unified look can be yours for far less than you think.

Bedroom sets or suites have become immensely popular over the past ten to twenty years. Consumers no longer have to pray one manufacturer’s cherry finish will match another’s, or put in the legwork (or web-work) of making this happen. These bedroom sets ensure an exact matching finish with another benefit—matching hardware as well. Handles and knobs are an important part of a piece of furniture’s overall look, as they work to offset the finish of the wood by adding a contrasting color and texture. With a new bedroom set, these pieces of hardware all work together so you don’t have an old copper handle clashing with a shiny silver knob.

A great thing about these bedroom sets is that no matter what style or era of furniture you’re into, you can find it. These new bedroom furniture sets are available in traditional styles like colonial, cottage, and Victorian, as well as more modern looks such as Scandinavian and Asian-inspired. Your choice of wood finish is also almost completely limitless. Everything from the palest pine to the darkest shade of espresso, and everything in between is available.

As I said in the opening paragraph, you can get a new bedroom set for far less than you think. In many cases, a set including a bed, dresser or chest, a pair of nightstands, and a mirror can be had for around $2000. Options are available for all price ranges on the Eco-Furniture website.

Design Your Kid's Room With A Bedroom Set - It's Cheap, Easy, And Fun!

By Rebecca Naylor

When purchasing furniture for your children, you are probably looking for something fun, inexpensive, and durable. Well, bedroom sets are a good way to go. Since they are specially made for kids, the beds are smaller than the average adult bed, and the color schemes are often brighter and flashier, and much more fun.

Life will be easier if you buy the furniture in sets. This is because all the furniture will match in color and style, so you only need to go shopping once! Also, discounts automatically occur when you purchase pieces together rather than as separate components.

Childrens bedroom sets are made with kids in mind, so they are specially crafted to be durable. A set can include some of the following furniture: computer desk, chest of drawers with shelves to go above it, twin sized bed (some which turn into bunk beds or loft beds), a bedside table, vanity set, bookcase, mirror, and a wall shelf.

None of the sets come with mattresses, and depending on the age of your child, the size of the mattress will vary. If your child is a reader, order a bed and headboard that doubles as a bookshelf. Create a getaway underneath a loft bed with a desk, bean bag chair and some of their favorite treasures.

There are some sets designed specifically for babies, toddlers, older children, and teenagers.

If you’re looking at cribs, you can have the option of different finials on the crib posts. Choices include balls, stars, airplanes, “bunnies”, and flowers in black, navy, white, and cherry red.

For older children, your choice may depend entirely on the gender of your child. Pretty pink frills, flower gardens and fairy princess designs are a favorite with some little girls, while others prefer a rough and tumble fire engine, race car or castle theme.

If you prefer to decorate in colors of your own choice and want the furniture to be neutral, there are plenty of sets that come in basic white, and light or dark wood veneers. Pine is a common wood used for kids beds because it’s attractive and serviceable.

Although the extra furniture with the bed is important, when purchasing the set, the bed is the most important thing to consider. Choose between loft beds, bunks, captain beds, twin or full-sized, toddler size beds, and cribs. Most of them are made of wood, but you can find ones that are made of wrought iron in original patterns.

The majority of the sets contain multiple drawers for all of the knick knacks (treasures, gifts) that children pick up over the years. Although children don’t often want “classy” to rule the day, there are some sets that do that and look like a child’s bedroom at the same time. The children's bedroom sets can come in different styles such as country, ranch, renaissance, and rattan.

Bedroom Design

By Max Bellamy

A bedroom should serve as a peaceful, restful place with warm decor that can be varied depending upon the season. Comfort in a bedroom is a key factor for most people, while others prefer simplicity and functionality as important features.

If the room is to be used only for sleeping, obviously a bed and storage space for clothes are needed. It doesn't have to be particularly large. If the room is also to relax and work in, a larger space is needed. If your bedroom space is small, a partition can make the room seem larger and give you room for dressing.

An ideal bedroom should be large enough to contain a pair of comfortable chairs or a small sofa. There should be at least one nightstand for books and other incidentals, bookcase and a desk.

A guest bedroom ideally should be both comfortable and welcoming. If there is space, include a roomy dressing table that can also serve as a desk; add a comfortable chair and provide good lighting.

Infants and young children should have soundproofed bedrooms with dirt resistant flooring. Adolescents and teens should be given the opportunity to help design their bedroom. It should include a bed, worktable, dressing table, chair, book shelves, entertainment center and enough storage for all of their "stuff." If there is extra space, an extra bed is useful for sleepovers with their friends.

Bedrooms are often square or rectangular in shape. This is considered the most economical design for this room. Some houses have bedroom features like wide windows with platform sitting areas that can be used for storage or as a window seat. If a room has a high ceiling, long windows can create an airy feel.

A bedroom in a cottage does have a special charm, but it becomes difficult to fit furniture into rooms because of size and low roofs.

Ultimately, a bedroom should be designed keeping in mind the comfort and personal requirements of its owner.

Bedroom Furniture Sets

Nowadays people not only look out for single pieces of Bedroom Furniture but also for complete Bedroom Furniture Sets, which can create sync between the bed set, and its surrounding furniture. Bedroom Furniture Sets have taken the American furniture market by storm, as there are diverse ranges of Bedroom Furniture Sets available and offered at various price ranges.

However, if there is anything that is not to be missed, that happens to be the solid maple bed sets, due to their elegance, style, functionality and non-toxic features. These Bedroom Furniture Sets are mostly hand-crafted for a long-lasting finish. Most of them usually include a bed frame, 6-drawer dresser, a mirror and two graceful nightstands. They primarily come in three categories, as Ash, Birch and Maple.

These days, traditional six-piece Bedroom Furniture Sets have been replaced by the seven- and eight-piece furniture sets, which are now extremely popular. They are specifically crafted from classy and striking maple, rather than normal particleboard or thin layers. All the furniture in this bed set is polished with a non-toxic finish to provide a sound and tranquil sleep. All the Bedroom Furniture Sets available on the market are said to be free from any defects in material or craftsmanship. Normal Bedroom Furniture Sets usually have nightstands, chests, dressers, vanity cases and a jewelry chest. They are designed to harmonize with each other. Now you can easily find reasonable and fashionable Bedroom Furniture Sets at any furniture store.

Bedroom Furniture Sets can be classified in two categories: according to the finished form or according to the style. Beautiful Bedroom Sets - Yes, They Can Be Very Affordable

By Ben Weissman

Whoever said that bedroom sets had to cost a great deal of money to be comfortable or attractive must have profited from a well known name brand furniture designer looking to make a buck. You can find affordable bedroom sets all over the place, many of which are perfect imitations of some of the more expensive designs, without having to look hard. Where are the best places to start looking for inexpensive furnishings for your bedroom?

Decorating your home with discount bedroom sets is made simple by online stores that wrap the entire set into one package deal. While many high end furniture stores will sell items by the piece and never offer a discount for bulk purchases, others will knock hundreds of dollars off the price when you buy the entire set. Many of these will let you add pieces to the discount bedroom sets for a minimal cost as well, such as a second night table, an armoire, or chest of drawers. Online stores have the advantage of saving money on shipping when ordering multiple items and some will pass that savings on to you.

Another place to look is the factory. If you call a manufacturer, you may find that they have affordable bedroom sets sitting in a warehouse that no one has ordered, that were returned, or that have small mistakes, like being short a nail or having a small scratch in the wood. Choosing among these can save you hundreds of dollars on a brand new furniture set, even on the more expensive name brand products.

Another way to save money on your bedroom is to look at something smaller. For example, while you might want a king sized bed, queen bedroom sets and their accessories cost a lot less. This means that you can save not only on the immediate purchase but also on the additional décor later. When it comes to kids bedroom sets, you don't even need anything decorative. Your children are going to grow and change so quickly that you shouldn't spend a fortune on the bedroom suite that they pick out. Instead, choose something that will be functional for years to come, and let your son or daughter pick out the twin sized comforter that will decorate the kids bedroom set that you purchase.

One final way to find affordable bedroom sets is by visiting furniture stores when the latest styles arrive. During this time, it is necessary to make room for the newest fashions that have arrived and discard last year's models, much like liquidation at a car lot or a seasonal sale at a department store. Therefore, you can find affordable bedroom sets among last season's "cast offs" that are marked down to make way for the new models.

Decor for Bedrooms: Find Your Perfect Design

Some people like to design their bedrooms specifically to fit the season. Winter colors are very popular in the winter, autumn colors make beautiful bedroom décor, springtime colors can certainly brighten up your bedroom, and summertime colors can also add a beautiful touch to your bedroom décor.

If you cannot afford to or simply do not want to have two to four bedroom sets of different colors to fit the seasons, you can still have wonderful bedroom décor. When you stick with one bedspread, set of curtains, window seat covers etc. just be sure to choose wisely. Neutral colors are my first suggestion. Using colors such as blacks, browns, beiges, off-whites and whites can all be used as a sort of universal bedroom décor.

However, if you do not want to have two to four bedroom sets in your home to change the colors in your bedroom as the seasons change outside, you may very well prefer to pick the colors you like best. That is the next best thing. If you prefer burgundy, and you already have a wooden bedroom set that is stained a burgundy color, you can just go with that theme or motif for the rest of your bedroom design. It is very important to keep in mind that your bedroom décor will not reflect your personal taste unless you do not let anything get in the way of your personal style when you decorate. Your bedroom décor will not reflect your decorative ideas unless it is something you enjoy, no matter if it is snowing outside or swimming pool weather.

Bedroom sets:Many bedroom sets come in four and up to eight pieces, which include items like nightstands, bed frames, dressers, vanities, armoires etc. Your bedroom set is the base of your bedroom décor, because it will often accentuate the rest of the design.

Curtains: The curtains in your bedroom will play an essential part in the overall look of the room itself. There are many kinds of curtains to choose from when choosing your bedroom décor. Some styles of bedroom décor are more subtle, with a plain color or simple design and versatile enough to last year round. Other kinds of curtains for the bedroom bring out an especially elegant touch to the room. These are curtains such as silks, velvets etc., the velvet often bearing some sort of design and or texture.

Bedspreads:Of course the bedspread is one of the most essential parts of bedroom décor. The bedspread, pillows and sheets that you use can add a beautiful or stylish touch to your bedroom. Therefore you should be sure to choose the very best bedspread for your personal taste, especially if you will be using a long lasting bedspread year-round.

Some people come halfway in the case of seasonal bedroom décor when it comes to their bedspreads and throw pillows. Although they change no other part of the room, they will have two different bedspreads and bedspread accessories to change the bedroom décor slightly as the weather changes. This may be a practical move, too if you choose to use a heavier, warmer bedspread in the wintertime and change over to a lighter bedspread when the seasons change and the nights seem to be getting warmer, making it less comfortable to sleep.

Carpeting:The carpet you choose for your bedroom is also a very important part of the overall look of your bedroom décor. If you change your bedroom décor often, you will prefer a more neutral color carpet. Always try to buy stain resistant carpeting for your bedroom and any other room of the house, especially if you choose a light colored carpet.

Throw Rugs:Another good idea for bedroom décor is to have a throw rug. Throw rugs can be great bedroom décor because they can protect certain parts of the carpet not covered by the bed. However, throw rugs can also add a beautiful, even luxurious touch to your bedroom. Fine oriental rugs and more expensive designer throw rugs are very popular among those wealthier persons who really take their bedroom décor very seriously.

Bedroom Interior Design Basics For The Beginner

By Wade Robins

People are often confused with the concepts of bedroom interior design and bedroom interior decoration. Not a few believe that these concepts rae one and the same, although in reality, they are two different things – although they may both pertain to changing the look of a bedroom.

In order to better comprehend what each term refers to, we will first examine the elements that play a part in bedroom interior design and how it is related to interior decoration.

More Than Just A Sleeping Area

Times have changed and so have bedroom's purposes. Due to technology and changes in lifestyles, a bedroom often doubles up as a home office or an exercise area. Sometimes a homeowner may even opt to have a settee in one corner of the bedroom where he or she can have tea with a friend or a partner.

In any case, the bedroom interior design will largely depend on what the owner intends to use the space for. The designer may have to do some research on the homeowner's hobbies and activities or whatever goals he has for the outcome of the bedroom.

This is the reason why if the room owner intends to hire a professional to do the bedroom interior design, it is important for them to spend time to discuss their thoughts so that the result would be exactly what the client wants.

Planning the Bedroom Interior Design

Many designers consider this step to be more difficult the the actual work itself. When planning a design for the bedroom, a lot of designers take advantage of user-friendly modeling programs to help them come up with graphic representations of their ideas.

Alternatively, concept sketches could still be used, for as long as they serve the purpose of concretizing the ideas that have been discussed. During this stage, the furniture that will serve well, depending on the planned functions of the bedroom, are selected.

In addition, the color scheme and the window treatments to be used for this particular bedroom interior design are carefully chosen and put together. Finally, the accessories and other decor such as lamps, vases, or paintings are added to the plan.

This means that apart from the bedroom's interior decor, bedroom interior design is also concerned with the room's framework, use of space, and all the furniture needed to serve the intended function of the room.

How It All Comes Together

Working on a bedroom interior design may not be as easy as it's made out to be. In some ways, the project entails recruiting the help of an engineer or sometimes a contractor to bring the concept to fruition.

Unlike a simple paint job or furniture rearrangement, bedroom interior design involves ensuring that all the changes to be made conform to a safe and functional design, no matter how minor the changes may be. In this sense, the interior designer also acts as a "project manager" of sorts.

In summation, while the interior decoration of a bedroom involves altering the space's looks, including wall hangings, carpeting, or paint, bedroom interior design is known to be more comprehensive, as it includes the functional use of space and furniture.

Finally, bedroom interior design should also incorporate the essential elements of aesthetic design. After all, a bedroom that fulfills its occupant's goals in terms of functionality must also serve as his or her haven – and to be one, it must be pleasing to the eyes.

Bedroom Sets: Getting Quality And Cost Effectiveness At The Same Time

You need new bedroom sets but find that there are so many on the market that it just is too hard to choose. The cost of these sets can range wildly leaving you with questions about why they are so different. On top of all else, you may not be able to tell the quality, function and design that fits your needs. Before you get the point of being overwhelmed, consider the various options that you have in bedroom sets. You can make a purchase that will serve all of your needs including cost effectiveness, quality and even style.

Where To Buy From
One of the largest questions you’ll need to make it where to make your purchase. If you look locally, you may find yourself struggling with massive price fluctuations. That’s because these prices can vary based on the quality of the products, the dealer’s ability to work with manufacturers as well as their mark up. Now, to sort through this, you’ll need to take into consideration each of these things. Here are some tips to help you.

• Look at quality; don’t just buy what the salesman says to buy. When purchasing bedroom sets, you want to feel how well the piece fits your needs in quality. Bounce on the bed frame a bit. Check out the sturdiness of the dressers. Pull out one of the drawers to the dresser and flip it over. Look to see how the pieces are fitted together. Are they intertwined with pieces of wood that fit neatly together? Or, are they pieced together with nails and glue? You don’t want the latter there.
• Look at the warranty. If the furniture that you are purchasing doesn’t offer some type of warranty, you should be wondering why not. Take the time to ask about this and inquire what any type of warranty will include. Don’t assume that it will cover all costs and repairs because most will not.
• Cost mark ups. In most furniture stores that do sell bedroom sets, you will find the ability to purchase products at below the cost listed. If you haggle with the salesman, you may be able to bring down the price. But, you will want to make sure that no type of service or warranty coverage is lost by doing so. Most locations to offer some ability for you to get the price down.
You should also be well aware of the competition out there for each furniture retailer your visit. You may even want to check the web for offers on beds and bedroom furniture as you can save a good bundle by doing that. But, above all, you need to shop several locations and get estimates on the costs that are out there.

When you take the time to consider the quality of the products you are purchasing, you get the best possible product on the market. Then, work on the price through comparison shopping and even a bit of haggling. Eventually, you will find the right bedroom sets available at the right price with the quality that you need to have.

Use Your Bedroom Furniture to Maximize Space

Your bedroom should be more than just a place to wearily fall asleep in each night and groggily wake up to each morning. A bedroom should be a sanctuary of peace and tranquility where one can relax while reading a book or watching a movie on television, as well as sneak away on a lazy weekend for a quick nap. Your bedroom could be more functional than it is currently and this short article will give you some tips on how to transform your bedroom.

The size of your bedroom, more than anything else, determines what you can do as far as decorating and furniture options go. If you're lucky enough to have a huge master suite with room for a separate sitting area, your options are almost limitless. If you're a little cramped for space or have an average size bedroom, some creative thinking may be needed to maximize your space.

For those with a larger room or master suite type set-up, a very popular option is to create a separate sitting area in one part of the room. This can be done a few different ways.
First, consider a comfortable, informal sofa or couch with a small coffee table or a few end tables. Set your television up so it can be seen easily from both your bed and the sitting area-you may need a swiveling base or arm to accomplish this. Other options for this sitting area are a nice daybed or comfortable futon. Futons are a great option because of their versatility. If you have a large window or patio entrance in your bedroom, arrange your sitting area so as to maximize the natural light you receive there.

For those who are little space-challenged, some great options are still out there. First, evaluate the size of your bed. If your king or queen size bed takes up a good portion of your bedroom, consider dropping down a size or two. This added space can drastically change the flow of your room and open up options such as a small futon or perhaps a just a nice upholstered chair or two with a cocktail table. The trick is to use your space to its fullest potential. Measure out your space and make plans on paper before you throw your back out moving the bed five times.

Bedroom Decor Tips and Ideas for the Wall Behind the Bed

By Lester Fong

Going for a big-scale visual display behind the bed is a very good idea because it focuses attention on the bed. It’s a decorating device many interior decorators use. Here are some bedroom decor tips and ideas for the wall behind the bed.

It’s very trendy to use wallpaper panels to create a tall, virtual ‘bedhead’. You can also be adventurous and use three different wallpaper patterns – either complementary or contrasting – for an eclectic or funky look. The downside of using wallpaper is that it is permanent, so you have to be very sure you like the effect and the pattern before you put it up. In addition, you wouldn’t be able to take it with you if you move out.

A more flexible option to bedroom wall decoration is to hang fabric panels, which can be taken down for cleaning or changed when you get tired of the color scheme. This idea also has the benefit of being a great DIY project you can complete in just one weekend.

Depending on the effect you want, you can hang the panels up individually on a cable wire or a thin chain (from any DIY shops) suspended form two hooks on either side of the bed.

To create the panels, simply fold the top of the fabric over to create an open tunnel and sew, then attach a row of fishing weights or decorative tassels to the opposite end so they will fall straight up. Slip the cable through, hang and voila – a beautifully dressed bed.

Alternatively, look at wall cladding with wood. Large wooden panels can be screwed in place and trimmed with flat molding to make a grid effect. Flush plywood sheets or thin wood veneer at the head of a bed will create a warm sense of enclosure for a sleeping space.

Wood paneling can be warming and give the effect of enclosure if dark woods are used; with lighter woods, such as light oak, bleached teak, elm or maple, it tends to be refreshing.

If you’re willing to stretch your imagination, you’ll find many other types of materials to use for your bedroom wall, ranging from metal to leather and even coconut husks.

Using Color To Change The Size Of Your Bedroom

By Lee Dobbins

Did you ever wish your bedroom was bigger or smaller? Well if you don’t have enough money to change the actual size of the room, then you can use paint to make the bedroom seem bigger or smaller.

Paint is well known as one of the least expensive and easiest ways to change the look of any room, but if you pick your colors carefully you can give the space a new feel as well as a new look. Certain colors can make your bedroom walls feel closer or farther away.

If you have a small bedroom and you want it to feel more spacious, then consider painting the walls a receding color. These are the blue – green – purpleish colors and any combination thereof. Look at a basic color wheel – you’ll see that those colors are all next to each other on one side. You probably want to avoid the darkest of these combinations, however as painting a room in very dark tones can make it look smaller overall.

If you want to make a large bedroom feel more cozy, then paint the walls advancing colors. These are the colors on the other side of the color wheel – the reds, oranges and yellow. Bright warm colors will close in the space and make the room seem cheerful and cozy. Also if you have a large cavernous room with a very high ceiling, consider painting the ceiling a medium or dark color which will make bring the appearance back down to a normal height.

When painting your bedroom, make sure you buy enough paint to do the job! Consider how many coats you will need. A dark color may need several coats. IF you are trying to paint a light color over a dark, you may need to use some primer and also a couple of coats. 1 gallon of paint can do about 400 square feet so keep this in mind. To measure your room, go around the edge of all the walls with a measuring tape and record the total width. Measure the height from floor to ceiling and multiply by total width to get the square footage. Measure all the doors and window opening and subtract this from the total square footage (or not, it’s always a good idea to have a little extra paint then not enough!).

Don’t forget to protect your wood moldings with painters tapePsychology Articles, remove all the covers from the electrical outlets and plugs and cover the floor and furniture with drop cloths!

By Kathy Burns-Millyard

Did you ever wake up one morning, look around your bedroom and want to pull the cover back over your head? Join the club. Humans are one of the few creatures that frequently rearrange and re-do their living space. Bedrooms are the most frequent redecorating candidate. Every so often, for reasons unknown to many, we look at that cozy nest we carefully created and think "ugh." It's boring, it's outdated, I'm sick of that color. Grand visions of a totally gutted and remodeled space may fill your mind, until you look at your bank balance. Don't be glum! Redecorating doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg!

The quickest way to a new look is a splash of paint. Even if you use the same color (because you had paint left over), a fresh coat of color reinvigorates the room, makes it look cleaner, newer. If you've grown tired of your wall color, choose a new one, drape protective cloths over the furniture and get rolling. The endorphins pumping through your veins after painting the whole room may just fire up some other decorating ideas for your bedroom.

One reason a fresh coat of paint reinvents a room is that the different color gives the space a whole new identity. The same idea applies to your bedding. If your budget is extremely limited, you might start by adding new pillow shams. Usually sold as a separate piece from comforters, sheets, or pillowcases, a sham is a highly decorative pillow covering. When making the bed in the morning, you slip your covered pillow into the sham-remove the sham at night before you go to sleep. If you find a great deal on pillow shams, buy a bunch-you can fill them with plain foam pillows and give your bed a luxurious look by piling them on.

A new comforter or bedspread is another way to redecorate your bedroom inexpensively. Check local malls for discount linen stores, or browse the Internet for great deals on beautiful, but cheap comforters and bed skirts.

A simple way to create a coordinated look without spending a lot of money is to use bed sheets to make window treatments. Often, comforters are sold in "bed sets," which contain the comforter, as well as a fitted sheet, flat sheet and pillowcases. Since you sheets will usually be covered by the comforter, you can use the fitted and flat sheets as material to frame bedroom windows. If you don't sew, use the special "no-sew" fabric glue sold in craft and fabric stores to hem a nice edge. In a pinch, you can hold a hem using a hot glue gun.

Decorating or redecorating a bedroom is often a matter of changing one or two elements. You can have a new look even if you don't feel up to the task of choosing colors or shopping for the best bedding deal. Sometimes, all that's needed is to re-arrange the furniture. And if that simple change leads to others, good for you!
